Artist Biography

Mossback is the solo project of Spencer Linn, a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Portland, Oregon with roots stretching back well over a decade across metal, hip-hop, and experimental music. Known widely as one half of Grim Salvo and a member of progressive metal band The Odious, his solo work carves out its own distinct space, leaning into dark hip-hop, introspective lyricism, and atmospheric production built from his own hands. He launched the Mossback name in April 2022 and has steadily grown the project since, with his solo output sitting at a slower, more deliberate pace than his work in Grim Salvo. Songs like Strigoi give a clear sense of the solo direction: haunting, emotionally heavy, and deeply personal, built on imagery of sleeplessness, loss, and psychological unrest. He also runs a Patreon for dedicated supporters looking for a closer look at the creative process. A musician's musician with range across multiple genres and projects, Mossback is one of the more quietly versatile figures in the Portland underground.
